The AS90 first saw service with the British Army in 1993. It currently equips 5 field
regiments replacing the ageing Abbot and M109s.
The main punch from the AS90 is from it's 155mm gun which can fire a standard NATO
L15 unassisted projectile out to a range of 24.7km.
AS90 is fitted with the autonomous navigation and gun laying system (AGLS) this allows
the crew to hit a target with pin point accuracy.
AS90 can work independently of the external sighting refrences.
The turret of the AS90 is controled by a turret control computer (TCC). This technology
allows the AS90 to fire a burst of three rounds in 10 seconds which is something nobody wants to be on the receiveing end
of.
